EASTON — Talbot County has won a 2017 Innovation and Leadership in Watershed Protection and Restoration Award from the Center for Watershed Protection for innovation and leadership in watershed. The county won the awards because of its leadership in testing new technologies to reduce stormwater pollution to local waterways at a lower cost.
Among other projects, the award cited a 2015 partnership between Talbot County, MRC, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Nature Conservancy, and Environmental Concern Inc. to launch a ditch retrofit experiment on Glebe Road. The county reconfigured roadside ditches to slow down water flow and allow the ground to soak up nutrients from stormwater and reclaim sediment that would have otherwise been washed into the water.
