Our Waterways
Construction Stormwater Runoff
Polluted Stormwater Runoff from Construction Sites Is a Major Cause of River Impairment
Stormwater runoff carries sediment, sludge, and other pollutants directly into our streams and rivers, burying aquatic life, clouding the water, and choking out light and oxygen. Construction sites are responsible for implementing proper erosion controls to prevent stormwater runoff, but too often fall short of this responsibility. All of us should be on the lookout for illegal stormwater runoff and should be prepared to report it when discovered.
