Report Cards

Midshore Creekwatchers, our citizen scientists, sampled water quality more than 500 times at over 117 various sites in the Choptank River, its major tributaries, Eastern Bay, the Miles River and Wye River.

Our Creekwatchers measure

  • water clarity
  • dissolved oxygen
  • temperature
  • pH
  • salinity

and sample for

  • nitrogen,
  • phosphorus
  • chlorophyll a

We use analysis protocol developed in collaboration with the Maryland Tributary Assessment Coalition to analyze this data to come up with our grades.

2016 Report Card – Eastern Bay, Choptank, Miles and Wye Rivers

The results for overall health in 2016 were:

  • Upper Choptank River scored a C (down from a C+ in 2015)
  • Lower Choptank River scored a B+ (up from a B in 2015)
  • Tuckahoe Creek scored a C- (down from a C in 2015)
  • Miles River scored a B- (unchanged from 2015)
  • Wye River scored C (unchanged from 2015)
  • Eastern Bay Complex scored B+ (up from a B in 2015)

 

2015 Report Card – Eastern Bay, Choptank, Miles and Wye Rivers

The results for overall health in 2015 were:

  • Choptank River scored a B- (unchanged from 2014)
  • Miles River scored a B- (upgraded from C in 2014)
  • Wye River scored C (unchanged from 2014)
  • Eastern Bay Complex scored B (unchanged from 2014)

2014 Report Card  – Eastern Bay, Choptank, Miles and Wye Rivers

The results for overall health in 2014 were:

  • The Choptank River scored 61%, a B- (upgraded from C in 2013);
  • The Miles River scored 54.7%, a C (unchanged from 2013);
  • The Wye River Complex scored 46.2%, a C (up from C- in 2014);
  • Eastern Bay Complex scored 71.5%, a B (upgraded from B- in 2013)

The results for overall health in 2013 were:

  • The Choptank River scored 52%, a C;
  • The Miles River scored 46%, a C;
  • The Wye River Complex scored 44%, a C-;
  • Eastern bay scored 62%, a B-

The results for overall health in 2012 were:

  • The Choptank River scored 54% a C;
  • The Miles River scored 53% a C;
  • The Wye River Complex scored 53% a C;

  • The Choptank River scored 54%, a C;
  • The Miles River scored 41% C-;
  • The Wye River scored 65% and the Wye East 51%, a C+.
